Advice from Pharrell

Came across this on youtube. I think it's pretty dope, I didn't realize how.....reasonable and logical a guy Pharrell really is. Like 99% of his viewpoints are pretty much exactly like mine. Check them out.

Rest In Peace Mike

Today, June 25th 2009, we lost the most influential person in our generation. Michael Jackson, the King of not just Pop, but all music, died of heart failure this afternoon. This is a huge blow to the music industry considering this one man changed the entire game. People try to sound like him, move like him, and achieve his status. He set the bar for all entertainers. Has anyone noticed that most people who are considered to be "good" dancers are people who can dance like Michael Jackson? Thats pretty powerful. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and if you turn on the tv u can see just how many lives this tragedy has reached. It's pretty devastating. I, personally, am and always will be a huge MJ fan and it really is unfortunate that a day before one of our biggest shows the greatest performer of all time passes. Now im not gonna say anything cheesy like "i hope he's moonwalking in heaven" (honestly y wuld he even b doing that?) but I will say that he will be missed and i hope that SomeWhere Else can one day effect as many lives as this man did.

Random, but my job always sends us famous quotes with our work schedules and this one caught my eye...now that SomeWhere Else is back to work, it seems that this should be our motto so that we dont go missing again.

So today was Hamilton High School Class of 09 graduation and me and Lonnie were exhausted from busting missions so we went up to the school pretty late but it was crazy!!! About a year ago today i was walking across that same stage...man i felt so old!! i saw all my friends that were in 11th grade when i was up there and i have to admit im still pretty upset that i didnt see the whole ceremony cuz it was really a walk through memory lane...Somewhere Else was at that school everyday a year ago....now that our youngest member Chris (drummer) graduated were officially a college band lol man it really took me back to the good old days when we were just some mischievous high school rascals lol we saw our old teacher mr. goldstein (me and lonnie were pretty bad in his class) and it made me realize just how different high school was...it was way more personal and everyone knew each other...anywho the whole experience today just made me think of the end of my senior year and how SomeWhere Else was just gettting started with battle of the bands so forgive me for getting nostalgic haha congrats to the class of 09!!

Back in the high school days...

Album Review: Relapse

Aiight so if any of you are Eminem fans like me, you were probably excited for this comeback. But if you were really like me, after hearing like the first 4 songs he released it might have made you kind of uneasy about the direction he might be heading into. Yea he dabbled with the accent in older songs like "ass like that", but was he really about to do an accent.....for an WHOLE ALBUM?!?! I was against the accent as much as anybody, in fact I kinda hated it. In all honesty it's still not my favorite thing to hear. A couple songs like "Bagpipes from Baghdad" and the first song he released "I'm having a relapse" are sort of unlistenable for me. But being the Eminem fan that I am, I decided it was only right to give it a fair listenImage and video hosting by TinyPic...........And about a month later, now that I really can't stop listening to it, I've came to the conclusion that this album is pretty damn tight lol. Lyrically, he's on point as much as he's ever been. For me this is almost up there with The Slim Shady and Marshall Matthers LP's (at least better than Encore and Eminem Show) . And when I say that I don't mean expect to hear those albums over again, there is new element of transparency with which he talks about his drug addiction. He's also just as shocking and lyrically daring as he used to be. If you ever liked that Eminem style, I see no reason why you wouldn't like Relapse. Songs like, Insane which I'm sure you heard, (but probably wouldn't get caught listening to driving down the street lol) go back to that ole "let me say some shit that no rapper would ever think about saying" mentality. Songs like "Underground" "Deja Vu" and "My Darling" show that his lyrical prowess and creativity are definitely still there. And once your really get into the groove of the album you realize most of the songs don't even have the accent. Even the ones that do are pretty good. "Same Song & Dance","Must Be The Ganja" and "Medicine Ball" are some of my favorite songs on the album. I could go on putting crazy lyric quotes and stuff but that's not the point of this review. I think many people are turned off by the accent and automatically resort to "cynical listening" waiting for an excuse to skim through the album and say it was wack. We all do it . Just like Kanye, Em's put out enough quality albums to afford to go left field, even if it rubs some of his their fans the wrong way. Like many others I was opposed to Kanye's singing just as much as Em's accent, but I'm glad to admit I'm wrong especially when it ends in me discovering a great album. Hopefully this review will lower some of your biases not only to Em's album, but to other artists who have less than typical approaches.

Relapse 8.5/10

Gettin Our Instrument Game Up!!!

Alot of people dont know this but SomeWhere Else isn't just 3 rappers and 4 instrumentalists...its 7 MUSICIANS!! Get it straight lol we ALL do things outside our fields of performance...Jafet Jono and Elvis can play just about everything (and we hate them for it lol) but what a lot of people dont know is that the 3 rappers of the group (Lonnie Ro, Logik and myself) are very musically inclined. I play the drums, Lonnie plays bass and we both play piano. We try to stay up on our instrument game so we can better understand and be involved with the music we create. I bought random instruments such as the harmonica, the ocarina and even a kazoo (yea i said it....rite on my blog i said it) just to learn to play and perhaps use in the future...Lonnie bought a guitar and were learning that as well...in the future i plan on buying a saxophone and re-learning how to play it and Logik mentioned learning how playing the violin!!

So heres a mini jam session that me and Ro had...its mostly improv so give us a break lol heres a short rendition of Herbie Hancocks "Tell Me a Bedtime Story" with Lonnie on the keys and me -Saint P on drums...enjoy!!!
